Greetings! I wanted to share with you all a tour of Hampton Court Palace's Tudor Kitchens from last month. During the month of May they run the kitchens sporadically, and I finally managed to go! The Kitchens are reconstructed in the original part of the palace that housed them; because they're the Court kitchens, not the Privy kitchen, they're enormous (dozens of rooms, though only a small number are reconstructed). These kitchens prepared food for the servants and the court, up to 4,000 people a day when the King was in residence; the King's food (and that of favoured courtiers, I am led to assume) was prepared in the smaller Privy kitchen. The reconstruction featured a dozen or so men in Tudor garb, who put on demonstrations of the cooking throughout the day; at the end of the afternoon we wandered back through the kitchen and happened on their evening meal. Some of the food they cooked ended up in the canteen, which served my partner and I a very serviceable rendition of Beef y-Stywyd, along with some braised greens and roasted potatoes. We had a bit of a discussion about whether the Pavlova I had for dessert was period; his likely quite correct assertion that Henry would have had strawberries in May was trumped by my declaration that meringue is high tech food! Anyhow, pics below the cut, and if you ever have a chance to get there in May I'd highly recommend it. ( Cuts and love. ) |

Dream Remembered I usually don't remember my dreams, but as I dozed this morning, I had a dream where I went to England and had my wallet and pass-port stolen from me in a market. My bag had a large tear in the bottom, so I was carrying it upside down in order that my money and pass-port would not fall out. Then the bag was stolen. I remember talking to someone from the embassy about my pass-port taking 2 days to be replaced. In the dream, I was more worried about losing the pass-port than anything else.
A stress dream?
I'm not sure if I remember all of this. There was something about taking to wrong train or bus and winding-up in a bad place.
Can you analyize you own dreams? Do they really have any meaning, much less any sort of coherency? Dunno.

Lyn's Weekend To-Do List Friday, 5/9 - 8:00 AM--Meet with pediatrician.
- 8:45 AM--Get into one-car spin-out on on-ramp to I-83. (Everybody's fine, condition of car TBD.)
- 9:10 AM--Ride in ambulance for first time!
- 9:30 AM--Sit in Labor & Delivery for a way boring two hours while everybody watched me and basically waited for me to spontaneously burst into labor. (I apparently did have a couple of not-unusual-for-t-minus-five-days contractions).
Saturday 5/10 - NOTE: EARLY APPOINTMENT 3:23--get up to use facilities. Note slightly crampy feelings.
- Shrug and go back to bed.
- 4:15 AM--feel sharp pain in groin and drench bed and self in amniotic fluid.
- 4:15:30 AM--wake
torberg. Note ability to go from 0 to "out of bed and putting on pants" in 3 seconds for future reference. - 4:20--have
torberg wake charlotteb_, housemate and best friend extraordinaire, since we don't have a car. - 4:45--be admitted to hospital
- 4:45-9:15 AM--endure increasingly painful contractions
- 9:15 AM--Meet Dave, the anesthesiologist (No lie, that's how he introduced himself. "Hi, I'm Dave.")
- 9:20 AM-- Have the most painful pelvic exam in the history of pregnant women EVER. (No, not from Dave.)
- 9:30 AM--Get epidural!
- 9:31 AM--Have idiosyncratic reaction to epidural and heightened heart rate. Scare crap out of floor full of nurses with no one else laboring.
- 9:40 AM--Stabilize.
- Snooze off and on rest of day, until...
- 5:22 PM--Start pushing.
- 8:00 PM--Become very peeved at attending OB coming onto shift who, commenting upon my pushing, asked, "Haven't you made any progress yet?"
- 8:01 PM--Be advised by resident and nurses to "use it."
- 8:46 PM--Push out 7 lb., 5 oz. human being, immediately named Brigid Faith.
Those are the highlights. Better stories, will, as usual, follow. Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: snuffling from bassinette |

Why?reless We don't allow anyone who is not a student at our university use the wireless network here. It is a university decision based on security, not a library decision. If I have one more fucker from the public come in and tell me they used it last year (I have been hear 5 years and they never allowed it), or our policy is stupid because so and so university has free open wireless (then go there), or that it isn't fair because you want to use your laptop to access the internet, etc., I will explode their head with the power of my own thoughts. And don't roll your eyes at me, man up, and buy your own internet service or find some damn cafe that has free wi-fi.

Rosarius on the Mend I took this picture yesterday during my search for a happy thought, but before I found out about the new baby. In fact, you enjoy taking risks and doing things most people would shy away from.
You are very physical. It's likely that you're athletic, but not into team sports.

Hockey Player mofo While I do understand that since you play hockey for our local hockey team, you don't have an Alabama license, but rules are rules. No matter how many time you bat your baby blues at me and ask me to bend the rules this one time, I cannot and will not do it. Even after I explain which computer do what, you will still not convince me to give you an hour of time, not without a library card or a computer card.If you know you'll need longer time, just get the damn computer card already. For the amount of time you're spending complaining about our policies, your could be getting an hour of time. Enjoy your 15-18 minute express computer and have a nice day! Current Mood: annoyed |

Woot! Banners! It looks like I'll finally be getting the banners I ordered way back when. She will be sending them priority mail today so they should get here in time for Warlord. Now I just need to get a couple of poles and some portable holes to put them on. ( banners )Neat, huh! I'm hoping to have mine carried at the Laurel ceremony. They will also be great for carrying in Crown processionals. And at any rate, they will really spiff up the campsite. I adore the look of banners in the wind. Now, I know that shelving books can be rather difficult when it comes to figuring out the LC or Dewy number. They get confusing at times, and it doesn't help that our library is still transitioning from dewy to LC.
But, it should be fairly obvious that a book is over-sized. If it has a little star on the label and doesn't fit on the shelf, it is over-sized. Please stop shelving the over-sized books in the main stacks. Really. It makes you look dumb.
Yes, I know shelving sucks (which is why we shove it off on the n00bies) but really, it doesn't hurt to pay a seconds attention to what you're shelving. |

Sallie Mae’s Screw-Up May Cost YOU Money http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/getrichslowly/~3/290280164/ http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/?p=1809 Several readers wrote to sound the alarm that student loan giant Sallie Mae has screwed up, and their error may cost you money. Bethany writes:
I had been keeping an eye on my credit, making up for my past mistakes by paying on time meticulously and paying off my credit card debt. Yesterday my Equifax score dropped 76 points because Sallie Mae changed the way they report graduated loans. Turns out, I am not the only one.
Another reader named Rebecca saw her score drop from 770 to 650 overnight.
What happened? Bankrate offers a summary of the problem:
Last Thursday, May 8, Sallie Mae made an error in the way it reported some student loans to credit reporting agencies. Essentially, it reported graduated or extended repayment plans as arrangements for partial payment, causing Equifax, one of the three national credit reporting agencies, to code the accounts as delinquent, even if they were current.
[...]
Borrowers with extended or graduated repayment plans who applied for credit or pulled their credit scores in the last three business days may have had “one or more of their accounts show up as delinquent, and had an adverse credit rating,” says Tom Joyce, spokesman for Sallie Mae.
Why is this a big deal? Because your credit score not only affects how much you pay for loans, it can also affect the interest rate on your credit cards and how much you pay for insurance. If you’re in the process of buying a house and your credit score drops by 120 points, it could cost you a small fortune.
This appears to be a temporary glitch in the system. One commenter at the myFICO discussion forum received a call from the Sallie Mae customer advocacy group. Sallie Mae intends to fix the problem by the end of the week, and it’s possible that Experian could have updated information in their system within ten days.
What should you do? If you are concerned that your credit report may have been affected, you should probably obtain your free annual credit report from Experian to see if there’s an issue. (But note that your credit report and credit score are different things — it costs money to get your credit score.) My guess, however, is that there’s not much you’ll be able to do other than wait a few weeks for the problem to be fixed.
The discussion thread at myFICO contains the best, breaking news on this story.
More information about credit reports and credit scores:
I can’t help but think there are real problems with a system in which a glitch at a single company can potentially cost millions of people millions of dollars.

Stupid Juice People Please tell me your not one... MonaVie juice buisness pushers... those MLM folk scare me and they are here, crawling around Moncton, lurking in corners and trying to share this wonderful opportunity :P
My friends sister is involved and someone she hasn't talked to in a year is coming to her place with a friend today... to pick up archery stuff that belongs to the kids... and they are hooked... I feel sorry for my friend for having to deal with these folk.
Basically, think Amway... it is kinda cult-like and these people spend thousands of dollars going to conventions to listen to promotional speach and more importantly... by promotional books! oh yeah...
I'm sorry, if I want juice, I'll by it at the local grociery :P

20/20 rule 80% of my problems recently are, I think, caused by the fact that I just can't see correctly ever since I got my new glasses. (New frames & lenses to replace broken, not a new prescription). I should probably do something about that.
It seems weird to me that I didn't have these problems with the old glasses. I wonder if the lenses weren't ground correctly. |
